Asher School of the Elements is a boarding school and university for the "gifted" - the secret subset of the population that is capable of controlling one of five elements. Fire, earth, air, water, and electricity. The gift is usually a hereditary one, although occasionally the gifted can pop up in otherwise normal families. Asher itself is a remote city located along the coast of Washington state, populated entirely by the gifted and their families.

Aria could not wait to see her family when the school closed for christmas. She loved it at school don't get her wrong but cozy nights by the fire with her parents, sipping a bit of mulled wine. Was the things that got her in the mood for the holidays. However she couldn't get in the mood for it now with the mounting school work that their was still to get done. Aria was not the one who loved school at times when there was homework. She was a last minute type of person. Who rushed everything shore she could take her time and probably do better on things then she got but she liked chilling with friends and anything but homework. However today was not one of those days she had three reports to crack on with and if she didn't get them done today then she would have nothing to hand in.
The smell of mulled wine could linger for a few more days till it was time to go home for Christmas. She sat with a pile of books and papers. She really was struggling and dying in paperwork today. That was the reason she was sitting over in the library on a table away from all the other people so she could not get easily distracted. She sat desperately trying to get the work done. Thought it was like treading water with the work she was trying to get done. She sighed closing a book and rubbing her eyes. This history assignment was a tough one. Why did her work have to be so tough?
Aria let her eyes drift up from her study corner and studied the library it was near enough empty. It was that time of year where everyone was getting ready for the Christmas parties. Aria sat daydreaming at that point and time started to slip away from her.
Fox made a point to try and avoid the library when possible when it came to studying. It was too formal and never quite quiet enough – since noise seemed to echo slightly within the trapped walls. Today however people were anticipating and preparing for the holidays, so there were people there actually there to study for last minute tests and assignments.
His mind wasn’t on studying at the moment though, but on a desire to find something to read for fun. It wasn’t a luxury he allowed himself often, but he wanted to get a fun book in time for the break. He wandered near a section with folk lore, his eyes scanning the superficial covers of the books. Being indoors always felt a tad uncomfortable, but there was something eerie about being surrounded by books. He loved them – but it was almost as if he could hear the whispers of different stories, ghosts of trees that had provided the paper for the books. He reached for a thicker brown book that looked like it contained many folklore stories and pulled it tenderly off a shelf that was at eye level. He opened the hardbound book and fingered through it, the pages wafting with the smell of old book. Fox did this with a few more books, half-heartedly choosing half a dozen books to look through to see which he’d pick to actually check out.
With a quiet sigh he shifted the pile in his arms and walked went down the isle, his mind drifting to thoughts of being able to spend more time with his family. He still needed to get gifts for his siblings- a little something for each to make Christmas more special for each. He had been working as many extra shifts as he could, still putting away money for university, but he also knew there wouldn’t be much under the Christmas tree as it was.
He found a quieter corner that was less populated, some students – like a girl with pale hair seemed to be struggling to concentrate on her homework. He sat on the other side of the table, quietly putting down his pile and shouldering off his side bag with his schoolwork inside. He slid onto his chair and picked up on nordic mythology and started reading the first couple of pages, his brown eyes scanning the pages and skimming through the table of contents to see if anything in particular stood out to him.
