Asher School of the Elements is a boarding school and university for the "gifted" - the secret subset of the population that is capable of controlling one of five elements. Fire, earth, air, water, and electricity. The gift is usually a hereditary one, although occasionally the gifted can pop up in otherwise normal families. Asher itself is a remote city located along the coast of Washington state, populated entirely by the gifted and their families.

Today was a hard day for Aria. It was getting colder and darker in the mornings meaning she didn't want to get up. Thus making her late, which seemed to have a knock on effect that day. Putting her in a strange annoyed mood. She slumped down at a table with a grone. It was already dark and all she had done all day was school work. Witch annoyed Aria more. The cafeteria had been getting quieter now as Aria sat and slumped her head onto the table. Not looking around to see who was around her. She needed to breath and calm down. She felt like she was going to snap. Which she knew was never a good idea, with her powers and her cousins always been their in her worst moments to ridicule her more. She closed her eyes and listened to the noise of the cafeteria scratching of plates people chatting over food and her breathing.
It earther her. She had tried over the summer some calming breathing to try and keep her powers in check after she set a shed on fire when she was upset in the summer. She couldn't help it she just had the urge to burn and instead of burning the person the shed was the nearest thing. She remembered putting her hand on the cold wood and it slowly grew hotter and then the flames engulfed it. She rolled her face to the side looking down her table. She had blindly walked into the cafeteria and had picked an empty table. The cold surface on her cheek as she collected herself. She didn't know what she was going to do with her evening she hoped for a distraction. As she was not hungry she just sat there listening in a sort of dazed trance. Not coming back to the world until she saw a shape at the end of her table. Bringing her eyes back into focus.
