Asher School of the Elements is a boarding school and university for the "gifted" - the secret subset of the population that is capable of controlling one of five elements. Fire, earth, air, water, and electricity. The gift is usually a hereditary one, although occasionally the gifted can pop up in otherwise normal families. Asher itself is a remote city located along the coast of Washington state, populated entirely by the gifted and their families.

PERSONALITY
Cassie, not Cassandra. Her "birth certificate" may say Cassandra but she won't answer to that and is quick to correct you. She may come off quiet and reserved upon first meeting. And it's true, she prefers small company or her own company. She has never needed a big circle and has come to appreciate being on her own over the years. She yearns to have a few close friends, or even one, but has accepted that being a loner is a strong possibility.
And though she's quiet, she isn't shy. She isn't afraid to talk to new people, in fact, meeting new people is something she was very used to, as well as defending herself when needed. She doesn't like to fight or quarrel, but if another wants to come after her, she is accustomed to both verbally and physically throw back. She didn't grow up soft and sheltered, but she was thrown into the very pit of a tough life. She tends to keep to herself, unless encouraged otherwise.
Cassie is a dependable and loyal friend, as her friends are often seen as family through her eyes. And though she doesn't grow attatched to people easily, when she does get attached, letting go is difficult and almost impossible. She is always open to new experiences and new places, she was always traveling from foster home to foster home growing up, so staying in one place too long is new to her.
Cassie definitely struggles with abandonment issues and anxiety and lack of self love, among other things. Her past is something she could use counseling for, but as never recieved. It will most likely be something will have to deal with the rest of her life.
HISTORY
Nothing is known before Cassie's 5th birthday. She was found seemingly abandoned by her birth family at a local park in Nevada. At the young age of (they think) 5 years old, Cassie found herself lost in the foster system. In fact, even her name Cassandra is one that was given to her by the state of Nevada, along with her birthday and last name. Bouncing from foster home to foster home, the only constant in her life was her social worker, Linda. She was the only family Cassie knew and often times found herself wishing the sweet old lady would adopt her. Unfortunately, no one ever did. Cassie has no roots, no family, and little hope for her future.
Cassie has known she was a bit different since she was 9. She was in a particularly roudy foster home, mostly full of boys both older and younger than herself. There was one boy there who kindly befriended Cassie and took her under his wing; his name was Dylan. In her 6 months of living in this foster home, which she fondly nicknamed the Cheese House (in memory of the constant stinky cheese smell it held inside), Dylan was her first real friend. They would often be found chasing each other in a game of tag, sneaking food from the kitchen, and giggling in the run down tree house in the backyard. They felt drawn together and their bond was strong. They always promised they that if anything happened, they would find each other again some day.
But, Cassie knew that would never happen.
It happened for the first time during a game of hide and seek tag. She found Dylan hiding in a tree and was climbing up in pursuit to tag him. But as she quickly reached out, a force from a place Cassie never knew she possessed inside herself knocked Dylan out of the tree. She would never forget the sound of him hitting the ground, or the sounds of his screams of pain. Her best friend broke his arm and a leg that day and he would never forgive her for "pushing him outof the tree."
It only took a couple days before Linda showed up at the Cheese House to pick her and transport her to the next home. She never saw Dylan again. As years passed, Cassie kept her newfound secret to herself, scared that she would not even be allowed at a foster home and she knew adoption was out of the question. When Linda pulled her from her last foster home and had her evaluated by the Asher Academy, she felt affirmation that maybe she wasn't a freak, after all. And she had Linda to thank for finding a place she really belonged. 11th grade is the start of her journey at Asher Academy.
